Learning about cannabis

Sativas are considered to provide an energizing, cerebral high

Before my first visit to the cannabis dispensary, I decided to educate myself. I was unwilling to shop with no idea of what I was looking for. I hoped to make knowledgeable choices that would provide a more rewarding experience. When I began reading up on the history of cannabis, I was surprised that it has been used as a medicinal and therapeutic remedy for thousands of years. I was also a bit overwhemed by all of the terminology. The cannabis plant provides chemical compounds called cannabinoids and terpenes. While the two most-prominent and well-known cannabinoids are THC and CBD, there are over a hundred in trace amounts. THC is associated with the psychoactive effects of cannabis. CBD is non-psychoactive and gaining notoriety for its curative properties. Research indicates that these cannabinoids are more effective when used together. The CBD helps to offset the drawbacks of euphoria while the THC elevates the benefits of the theraepuetic qualities. Terpenes are found in lots of different types of plants, including citrus trees and herbs. They are responsible for the unique aromas and flavors. In cannabis, the terpenes can be citrus-like, earthy, peppery, spicy or floral and contribute to the overall effects of the individual strain. While products at the dispensary are often divided into the categories of indica, sativa or hybrid, it’s best to pay attention to the THC:CBD ratio and terpenes. However, indicas are typically associated with full-body, sedative effects. Sativas are considered to provide an energizing, cerebral high. Hybrids offer the combined properties of the parent plants.
