Two years ago, my mom was diagnosed with early onset dementia. Everyone’s question was, is there anything we can do to keep her with us mentally for as long as possible? When I took mom to the doctors, I posed the question to him. He told me there were many medicines he could give her, but, and this was off the record, he heard some excellent things about the use of CBD and marijuana to help with dementia. Unfortunately, he couldn’t give us a prescription for CBD or marijuana, and we had to get a marijuana ID card for mom through the state. After jumping through hoops, we finally went to the doctor and got her medical marijuana card. It took nearly 3 weeks before she could get her marijuana card and I could get a caretaker’s ID card. Once we got both‌ cards, we went to a marijuana dispensary. I had given no thought to the fact that you get CBD over the counter, and I’m glad I didn’t. The first thing the budtender said to mom when we got into the dispensary was that if I was buying CBD, I should buy it at the dispensary. The CBD was much more expensive in the dispensary than it was at the store, but she also explained that it may not be as pure as what you bought at the dispensary. I wanted mom to get the best we could find to help her dementia. With a steady regimen of marijuana, and CBD, mom has kept nearly all of her memory, and even gained back some of what she had already lost.
