Who would have thought that I’d be splitting an edible with my old man? It certainly wouldn’t have been me that’s for sure.
While I had my suspicions that he smoked a fair amount of recreational marijuana when he was in college, he wouldn’t reveal anything.
It was always wait until I was an adult before experimenting with cannabis. That was his refrain from the time I was little until I went out the door to college. And that’s pretty much the last time we really ever discussed cannabis until recently. I waited until my junior year to try recreational marijuana and I certainly wasn’t disappointed in the experience. In fact, I sort of kept with my recreational marijuana experiences throughout my adult life. Of course, I had to do it on the sly with work and the fact that weed was illegal in all forms at that point. But when my mom got breast cancer, she treated with indica products to help her through the chemo treatments. Fortunately, they had retired to a state where there was legal medical marijuana. She rallied and is now a proud grandma. The state they live in was one of the first to recognize the success of the medical marijuana. And recreational marijuana was soon legalized as well. So I guess that’s how dad ended up with a couple of cannabis edibles in his pocket when I recently visited them. It was a rare solo trip for me as I was in town for business and just stayed on a couple of extra days. Dad took me to a minor league baseball game and handed me half a cannabis edible with a wry smile once we settled into our seats.
